Our Services

Musculoskeletal Assessment

A thorough history and physical evaluation of your current musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints, bones, tendons), medical history and lifestyle habits. Full musculoskeletal examination to assess imbalances in structure leading to dysfunction or potential issues. Discussion of hands-on treatment options that can include osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture, trigger point injections, dry needling, exercise or other modalities. You will have time to thoroughly review your prior medical history and current concerns. You are not limited to 1-2 body parts in this visit. We want to know it all!

Medical Acupuncture

Medical acupuncture is a western medical adaptation to traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture that is performed by trained physicians to relieve pain, treat acute injuries and chronic medical conditions. Dr. Franco has completed a 300-hour acupuncture certification and has years of experience. This treatment involves tiny, sterile needles placed in various body regions to facilitate nerves, muscles, fascia/connective tissue, release endorphins, improve blood flow, reduce inflammation and change pain perception to the injury. Acupuncture can also involve guasha or cupping if applicable. Acupuncture has been practiced for over 3,000 years and continues to demonstrate it’s value in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, now more than ever.

Dry Needling/Trigger points

Dry needling (using a tiny needle inserted to stimulate muscles and relieve tension) or trigger point injections (using a needle and injecting medications) into tight, painful muscles can aid in healing and retraining muscles. These techniques can be combined with other treatments or done alone. They can be helpful for new muscle spasms or chronic issues that may have to do with ergonomics and daily functioning. These are sometimes useful to combine with exercises to improve body imbalances and limit recurrence.

Osteopathic Manipulation Treatments/Medicine (OMT/OMM)

OMM is practiced by physicians who attended osteopathic medical school. It is a unique, hands-on approach to healing by a physician who also understands the medical conditions you may be facing and can incorporate this info into a safe and effective treatment to aid in healing and help reduce future painful issues. Osteopathy views the body as an integrated unit of mind, body, and spirit, recognizing that dysfunction in one area affects the whole person and promotes the body’s innate ability to heal itself by removing barriers to proper function. Osteopathy has been practiced for over 150 years and continues to this day. Dr. Franco is an assistant professor at the NYIT - College of Osteopathic Medicine and is able to continue learning, teaching and treating with the most recent advances in the field.

Cosmetic/Rejuvenation Acupuncture

Facial and cosmetic acupuncture is a natural, safe and effective approach to preventative skin care or rebuilding skin integrity. This is done using teeny tiny sterile acupuncture needles to stimulate new collagen growth. All the topical products available can’t change the inner workings of the skin the way a needle can. The microtrauma caused by the needle triggers fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, which can fill in lines and wrinkles. It can also bring fresh blood flow to the area, enhancing tone and reducing dullness. It can normalize facial tone and give a softer appearance still leaving motion in the region along with reducing puffiness by improving lymphatic drainage. And no treatment is complete without body needle points to improve overall Qi flow in the body for a full body treatment all in one.

This can be used with or without other facial procedures such as Botulinum or collagen injections and has been shown to enhance the effect of facial injections.

(Of course, please contact your injector if you have questions about the combination of acupuncture and facial injections)

GOLD TREATMENT
Combination of Osteopathic Manipulation and Acupuncture =

Osteo-acupuncture

A treatment combination UNIQUE to this practice is the combination of these 2 treatments; OMM and medical acupuncture. Using these together in one treatment creates a synergistic effect of pain relief and healing - which is why we call it GOLD. This is a combination of eastern and western medicine. This is usually not performed when seeing a physician who takes insurance because they would have to limit to one treatment to be covered by insurance. Having the freedom to combine these 2 effective techniques is so exciting. We can utilize the eastern medicine effects of acupuncture with improved movement of Qi (chi), full relaxation and endorphin release and then apply our osteopathic techniques to further encourage self-healing. The goal of utilizing these treatments together is for successful, pain relief and reducing the number of future treatments needed to get back to fully functioning and meeting your goals.
